Dec. 17th, 2007 11:24 amHey, yo, what's up, hiya, and all that.
Things keep on keeping on. Now that it's almost Christmas, my travel has finally died down some. I dodn't go anywhere last week at all! How awesome is that? Of course, January is rolling around again, and so then will my travel re-start.
Q and I go to our third of five operas tonight. Tonight is Doctor Atomic, the only one of the group that is modern and the only one in English. It's about the making of the atomic bomb, and all of the main characters are physicists (just like in Die Fleidermaus). The libretto comes from actual letters sent to and fro by said physicists. it should be good, though I'm sure I'll still be reading the subtitles (technically supertitles). For the record, the previous two were La Boheme, which I enjoyed very much, and Die Frau Ohne Schatten, which I enjoyed to a lesser degree but still enjoyed. The two left are Falstaff and Eugene Oneagin.
Christmas starts on Friday for us when we pile into the MINI Cooper and head out to Wyoming. On the way out there we are going to take I-90 because Q wants to go through South Dakota, which she falsely believes to be interesting. It only adds an hour or so to the total time, so it's no big deal. We should get to my sister Barb's some time late on Saturday. Then we enjoy spending time there and drive down to my sister Linda's place on the other side of Wyoming. We may drive down on Christmas Day because we'll have to leave on the 26th to get Q home on the 27th. She needs to be to work on the 28th, which sucks because it limits our time so severely.
I hate winter because it dries my knuckles and elbows out so severely. Other than that, I like it.
We went to The House of Pants and Grumbly last night for the second weekend in a row. Last weekend we just played boardgames (did you know that I like boardgames?) and this weekend we played a couple, but spent even more time playing Rock Band for the Xbox360. Q liked it very much and was a great drummer and a good singer, too. I tried everything at one point or another, but was best at singing and the bass. If a real rock band is anything like the video game, bass players must be there just for the pussy, not for any sense of accomplishment.
Speaking of boardgames (remember?), I have been keeping track this year of how many times I've played what games. I originally set a goal of 50 different games over the course of the year, but that took almost no time. Right now I'm at 238 games played with 135 different games. The two games I've played the most are Lost Cities and Battleline, which are both two-player games that Q enjoys very much (and so do I!). I've played them ten times each. The highest total for a multi-player game is Yspahan with six. Next year I want to try for even more. I'm also going to keep an Excel file with my game stats so that I can keep more than just what game I played and when. GeekPowers: ACTIVATE!
