markjwilder: (Mooooooo-Cow)
We currently have FIVE cats to go with our two dogs. We had three, and we're fostering two more for our friend Tonya. They've been here about three weeks now, but there still seems to be a lot of tension.

Anyway, I thought I'd comment about each of the kitties (in the order they arrived here):

MamaCat: Mama is a sweet little pain in the ass. When she's alone with people, she's very very very sweet with a nice little head-butt for attention. She's also by far the smallest cat. She also likes to pee in my duffle bags if they're not crammed away. Her biggest downfall is that she's a mean little shit and instigates the majority of the conflict.

Rufus: Rufus is a giant sweet kitty. He's huge, but not fat. He's just really really big. He has a very little meow for such a big kitty, and it's adorable when he uses it. He generally stays out of the way of others and wants to be everyone's friend. He sleeps on the cardboard scratch-thingy, in the planter (when the dirt's dry), under the stairs, and in the closet. He also has a very good way of sleeping in very odd positions. My favorite thing is his giant fangs that he likes to have skritched a bit.

Elsie Moo-Cow Fong-Torres: Moo was always a pretty sweet kitty when she lived alone at my place, but she's become a bit more aggressive here. MamaCat took offense to her being here, and Moo learned quickly that Mama is not to be trusted (good call, Moo). She's the roughest player, too (I wear my welding gloves when playing with her sometimes)> She has a penchant for high places, including in the drop ceiling and on top of the bedroom door (which freaks out the dogs). She mostly keeps to herself and comes to me when I'm downstairs at night for her share of petting.

Steve: One of the two foster cats, Steve is the most skittish of the cats (Rufus is a close second). He and his brother Miles get along well, of course, and he seems to have a friendship with Rufus, but Mama and Moo don't like him much. He's sweet and silly and very dense (as in heavy for his size). He likes to protect the back stairs and will ambush you with a quick paw when you come up. He's taken over some of the places the other cats liked to hang out (Moo's crate, for instance). He's a lot of fun to play with and quite sweet.

Miles: The other foster and Steve's brother. He is a big bundle of sweet. I don't think he's got a mean bone in his body. He's the most consistently sweet and friendly cat in the world, I think. I also think (sorry Tonya) that he's mildly retarded, but that makes him all the better. He attacks strings, demands attention with a powerful headbutt, explores bravely (even when MamaCat is around encouraging him to go away), and generally wants to be everyone's friend.

As much as we love Steve and Miles, though, it's just too many cats. We need to find a new home for the orange kitties. It's especially bad at night when Miles wants to sleep with us, but Mama's already there; the result is hisses, yowls, and a little Min-Pin/Chihuahua who comes out barking trying to be the peacemaker. At three in the morning. Ugh.

Anyway, those are the kitties.
