On shaving and laughing
May. 17th, 2006 12:46 amSome time ago, Susan bought a little mini-kit of high-end shaving stuff from The Art Of Shaving. He never took it, so eventually I snagged it. And recently, I started using it. It's got a nice shave cream, a pre-shave oil, and a after-shave balm that are all sandalwood scented. There is also a badger hair brush that I like very much. They make for a nice shave, and a pleasant and fun one at that.
As it goes with me, I've become addicted. Tonight I ordered a straight razor, a strop, a cup and soap for use with the brush, and bigger sizes of the pre-shave oil and balm. And, as it also goes with me, I'm already regretting the purchase. Not that I MADE the purchase, but I wish I would have spent the extra thirty bucks for the linen-backed strop instead of the plain leather one. OH WELL.
Some things (Susan related) I think about from time to time that makes me laugh:
1. We went to the planetarium and among some things we got at the gift shop was a star map. She walked out of the planetarium (at 5pm), set the star chart, and looked up in the sky to see the stars she was promised. In the daylight. You had to see it, though. It was really cute.
2. I made artichokes the other day and I didn't cook 'em long enough. I gave her the stem to try and she bit into it and said "it's woody" in a very cute way, like she didn't want to offend me. She didn't. She later told me that she was happy that I screwed up something food-related so that I wasn't a culinary super-man in her eyes anymore. And a culinary superman I am not, so it's a fair cop.
3. For her birthday, we went to a Greek restaurant downtown. We wanted Saganaki, but we didn't want the over-inflated "OOOOOOMPAH!" with it, so we asked the waiter just to give it to us without fanfare. He lit it on fair and, apparently unable to remain silent during the process, said "theeeeeeere we go". It was funny.
4. SHE IS RAPIDLY ACQUIRING MY WEIRD SENSE OF HUMOR. Not good. Not good at all.
5. She's just cute. And she makes me laugh. And I love her. That's enough for me. :)
