Movie Review: Wit
Jul. 6th, 2002 12:16 amI hadn't intended on reviewing any movies that I see on dvd, as i see a lot of movies on dvd and don't really want to review them all. But I liked this movie so much that I wanted to say something. The movie is probably one that you never heard of because it was originally showed on cable tv. It's called Wit. It stars Emma Thompson in an absolutely masterful performance as a not-very-old English professor who is diagnosed with acute ovarian cancer. It deals with her treatment, with of course a healthy dose of discussion of life-and-death as described by the poetry she loved so much. As you can imagine, it's heartwrenching. I've never really known anyone who has died of cancer, and I was terribly moved. I imagine some people might find it very hard to watch if they've had a relative go through this, so consider yourself warned.
4 stars out of 4, for sure.
