Long time reader, first time poster...
Apr. 20th, 2001 07:48 pmI've decided to start a live journal. It'll kill some time, both mine and whoever is suckered into reading it. I don't think I'll let my girlfriend or family see it, at least at first. Depends on what I decide I want to talk about. I'm going to talk a lot about the movies I see and dvd's I buy, so Daddy DEFINITELY won't get to see it. he doesn't like me to spend money (and with good reason).
I see a lot of movies. WAY to many movies. I've seen 48 this year (46 different movies. I've seen Crouching Tiger and O Brother twice). I'll try to keep an update on the number of films I've seen at any given time. I keep the list in a spreadsheet, along with charts and graphs and statistics. It's really quite odd, but we all like being odd, don't we?
I'll try to keep up also on the movies that I recommend. The spring is a traditionally dismal time for films. January has the Oscar contenders, May starts the summer crap-fest, but Feb/Mar/Apr are bad. There are a few good ones out there, though. Memento is freakin' incredible. If you liked The Usual Suspects, you'll like this movie. The Dish is a completely harmless movie from Australia. On the syrupy side, but not horrible. I really liked Bridget Jones' Diary, too. I was expecting Josie and the Pussycats to really really suck, but it only really sucked. One less really than I had planned. There were some spots that were funny in their mocking of teenage pop culture. The teens that were in the theater didn't seem to know they were being made fun of.
The dvd collection sits at about 110. I really need to update the database where I keep the list of those. Recently I bought The Decalogue, but have yet to watch any of the ten films in the collection. I'm really looking forward to the Requiem for a Dream dvd, due May 22. Speaking of Darren Aronofsky films, I found out there is a new Pi dvd coming out. A special edition. Pi was one of my first dvds, I'd hate to have to own two copies like I do with Boogie Nights.
i've been drinking some tequila lately. I don't really drink that much alone, but a glass of tequila a week is nice. I'm mostly drinking some Patron minis that I picked up in Casper WY over Xmas. Had the Anejo and Repasado, maybe I'll drink the Blanco tonight?
Tomorrow I am meeting some friends from the on-line world (met through The Straight Dope. A guy I only know as dpr is in town, so I figured I'd go and meet him. Hint of the day: If you park at The Baba Luci and stay until it closes, the valet parker goes home and you park for free. Worked last week, anyway.
And in the "credit where it's due" category: I wouldn't have a live journal if it weren't for Falcy.
