Catcher in the Rye
Jan. 28th, 2010 01:21 pmI think that it's only appropriate that I remember JD Salinger with the review I wrote in 2002 for Catcher in the Rye, a book that I absolutely loathed:
My review of Catcher in the Rye, in the style of Catcher in the Rye.
I didn't like the book much. I really didn't. The narrative voice that Salinger used got very goddam annoying. Very goddamn annoying. It really did. Some authors are like that. Very goddam annoying. I know it's a crumby thing to say, but I find them very goddamn annoying. I really do. I think Holden's a phony. A goddam phony. I hate him for being such a phony. He's the kinda phony who'll say the same thing over and over again, even if I tell him not to. "Don't say the same goddam thing over and over," I'll say, but he'll just say it again. What a crumby thing to do. I hate it when goddamn phonies do crumby things like that. I really do.
