I finally got around to watching The Sing-Off that I had DVR'd, and I liked it well enough. The big problem with it, I think, is that from the first show it was clear that there were only two groups who had a shot, and indeed they were the two final groups. I thought Nota was the best and I'm glad that they won. Everything they did was really really good. Even Sledgehammer was great. They have great lead vocals, wonderful bass, and great percussion. I think my favorite moment of the whole show was their number with Smokey Robinson, and I think they served the song perfectly with their arrangement. Their performance of "Down" was also out of this world.

The Beelezebubs were a lot of fun and I liked them a lot, too. They were a close second. Is it just me or did the kid who did most of the leads look like Frodo? Anyway, I think that the kid who did their arrangements understood what to do and that resulted in fun numbers that were super-well-balanced. Their "Sweet Caroline" was awesome, and I loved their Who medley a lot. Oh, and their number with Nicole Scherzinger or whatever her name is was also brilliant, though Ms. S would benefit from a sandwich.

I liked Maxx Factor (the older ladies in the barbershop quartet) a lot, thought I knew they wouldn't make it to the end because the competition being focused on pop hits made it hard. I think they bent to the song's style too much and should have bent the song to them, if that makes sense. The group I hated was The SoCals. I wanted to slap them from the beginning. They were discussing at the beginning how they were different than Glee, but two of their numbers ripped off Glee arrangements (or maybe glee ripped them off, I don't know). Anyway, The blonde male leader needed to be slapped.

The finale was fun. In addition to the Smokey Robinson and Nicole Scherzinger numbers, I was also glad to see Bobby McFerrin because I have a long-standing love for him (seeing him and Yo-Yo Ma do a violin concerto with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is one of the best musical things I've witnessed). Boys II Men didn't sound good at all, and the Ben Folds number wasn't good (though I love Ben Folds and he was my favorite judge). really though, the numbers that featured all of the (remaining up until that point) groups were generally the best.

Here are a few of my favorite numbers:
