Yes, that's permed hair.
Jul. 9th, 2009 11:23 amSenior year of 89-90. I graduated 3rd out of 75, but I'm still bitter about that because I was in the advanced math classes and #2 wasn't so I should have gotten some sort of consideration. Anyway, it's a tiny little school in the middle of nowhere rural parts of mid-Michigan. Our school housed both the middle school and the high school. My parents both taught at the school. Small-town USA and all that bullcrap. I knew by this time that my goal in life was to move away and live somewhere with, you know, minorities or something.
Here's a story that Susan has heard too many times: During my last band concert (I played saxophone, often baritone but by this time mostly alto), our bad director handed out some flowers to people who had helped him with various things throughout the year. For the last flower, he called down my mom, who was not a someone who helped out with stuff. He had become band director at the school 20+ years, and in all that time there had always been a Wilder in one of his bands, so it was the end of an era. I thought that was sweet. (If you didn't know, I'm the youngest of five, with sisters that are 15.5, 14, and 13.5 years older than me, and a brother 4 years older than me. We all played different instruments (flute, clarinet, trumpet, drums, and saxophone).
