My HDTV has had a problem for a while where the sound drops out for no reason. It's annoying, especially when you're playing Rock Band and you suddenly have no sound. Anyway, I searched for possible solutions online and found out that a firmware release fixed this a year ago. It makes me wish I had searched earlier. So I put the firmware on a flash drive, plugged it into the TV's USB port (and how cool is it that my TV has a USB port?), and ran the update. Hopefully it's fixed now; I haven't really played anything since I did it.
Pants and Grumbly were kind enough to let me borrow their copy of the original Rock Band, so I purchased the license to port those songs to Rock Band 2, essentially doubling the choices of songs I can play. Of the new ones, I really like playing Suffragette City by Bowie because it's got a great bassline. Faith No More's Epic is great, too, although there's a very difficult part in the middle with lots of hammer-ons that I'm going to need to practice. The original Ballroom Blitz is also fun because it's a great song and it's fun to sing along with "she thinks SHE'S the passionate one".
Quick side note: The first time I joined Columbia Music Club, one of my 13 cassettes for a dollar was Krokus' The Blitz album, which had a cover of Ballroom Blitz. I don't remember any of the other 12 cassettes that I got.
More practice is needed, as is the special bass guitar (I can really see how the split strum bar would help). Q played a little bit of Guitar Hero World Tour and asked why we don't have it, which is close enough to permission for me. I may get her the GH drum kit, too, because I hear that it's a big step up from the RB one.
