Die Rattenfängerstadt

I'm still in Germany for another week. It's the town of Hameln, famous for the Pied Piper of Hamelin tale. They still identify themselves by that even thought the actual event (which is very different from the story you know) took place in the 1200's and the Brothers Grimm story that popularized it was first published in 1816. I guess that when you find a good story you stick with it.
I'm here getting training from our parent company. It's hard, because my company doesn't focus enough on these German products so I'm likely to forget half of what I learn. It's a double shame because these servo drives that I'm learning about are FREAKIN' AWESOME. They're so very very good.
The picture above is from my last trip here, but just look at the photo set and pretend that they're new. The city still looks the same; I think it's looked pretty much the same for a hundred years. Sure, the signs on the shops have changes, but the buildings were mostly built in the 1500's, so how much has the old city really changed?
There are now real side trips this year, but we're still enjoying ourselves. I'll have next Saturday in Hanover, which should be fun. I need to get Q a few more souveniers. I wish she could have come with me, but it wasn't in the cards. Next time. Two weeks away from her (two and a half-weeks, actually, due to an unfortunately timed trip that she leaves on just before I get home) is too too too too long.
Have fun, y'all. It's bed time here, so I'm off to sleep. Auf weidersehn!
