For christmas, Q got me a ukelele kit. It's pretty much the greatest gift I've ever received, greater even than the gift of life. A ukelele would have been cool, but with this kit, I have to build it all myself from parts, and it should be a challenge, which I look forward to. I will try to update my LJ as the building progresses, because it will be neat. I don't have a lot of woodworking experience, but that's part of the challenge, isn't it?
Step One already has me a little stymied. I have to build a jig to use during the building. It's a pretty simple little jig out of 3/4" plywood, but therein lay the problem. How does one get just a little bit of plywood? I know I can get huge eight-foot sheets of it at Home Depot, but that's way more than I need. and once I get it, how will I cut it? singlespeed ) is keeping here while he's being warm in North Carolina, but I don't know how to use it. I'm sure I can figure it out, but then there's the problem of sawdust in the basement. I suppose since it's only a few cuts, the sawdust should be manageable. We have a circular saw, too, but then I run into the problem of trying to cut a straight line with reasonable tolerance on the cut. Indeed, it seems that step one may in fact be the hardest step, though I am sure that this will be proven wrong once I get into the process.
I'm also worried about splitting the wood when trimming it, but that's only in the back of my mind right now, because it's several steps away.
