Don't say that I NEVER post...
Oct. 9th, 2007 03:09 pmSo, tomorrow starts the last leg of my much-too-long travel frenzy. At least, I hope I get a break. I'll be in Vegas for eight days setting up and working a trade show there. I'm staying at the Monte Carlo, which I just found out today, but at least I have a place to stay now. I'm looking forward to it, as I've never been to Nevada (nor Arizona save for a flight layover years ago), so I can cross two more states visited off my list. That'll leave only four left (New Mexico, which is just too far a drive, Vermont, Maine, and Alaska).
I'm a little worried that I might gamble too much, but I think I'll be able to control myself. I plan on playing (and losing) a few hundred dollars in the grand scheme. I should have some free time on the weekend, so maybe I'll find a poker tournament to enter for $50. I'm sure I'll also find lots of stuff to see if I get the wild hair up my butt to do so.
I was thinking of taking my XBox with me, but I have found a renewed interest in my Playstation Portable, so that will do just fine.
Last Friday, Q and I went to a comedy show at The Lincoln Lodge, which was simultaneously the best and worst exeperience we've had there. It was horrible because we had the two most annoying people at our table, who kept talking and groping each other (complete with little moans) and were just all around annoying. We actually got up and left, though we just kicked around in the restaurant portion to cool our heels. The night was completely saved by comedian Mike O'Connell. He's the one who did the great video for his song "What's It Gonna Be?" (or, as Q calls it, "Bitches to Plow"). He's absolutely insane. Intense, absurd, funny as hell... He did all of the bits I had seen from YouTube and then some. It was one of the best sets that I have ever seen there. We shook hands with him afterwards because I wanted to get a copy of his album that he sells on his website. He didn't have any on him, but he said that it was available on iTunes. As soon as I got home, I bought it and downloaded it. Point is that we both kinda have a crush on him.
Last Monday, before my trip to California, Q and I went to the Lyric Opera of Chicago for the first in our series of five operas that we subscribed to. I wasn't sure what I would think, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. Q enjoyed it even more, so it looks like we're going to be opera subscribers for a while. We got great seats (for the whole season) that are in the first balcony. They're aisle seats (so I have room) and they're right by the entrance portal, so we can make a quick escape if need be. The one we saw was La Boheme, which was good, though I wouldn't call it SUPER-good. Our next one is Die Frau Ohne Schatten, which I'm really looking forward to, because German and all. It's also supposed to be heavy on the production values, which I think I will like.
Q and I have been watching more movies lately. Last night I half-forced her into watching The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain, which is a favorite of mine. She said before it started that it sounded boring, but in the end she liked it quite a lot. It helped that she has a thing for Wales, where the movie is set. She has decided that she will become an old Welsh reverend from the 1910's when she grows up.
On Sunday night, I made Q a roasted tomato soup (Michael Chiarello recipe) because we had a lot of tomatoes. It was good. It would also make a good generic flavorful tomato sauce, and tonight the leftovers will take on that role as it becomes the base for chiles rellinos, which I haven't made in too long. I'll be modifying the Rick Bayless recipe, of course.
I think that's all I have for now. Any questions?
