Games and HDTV
Jul. 9th, 2007 04:04 pmSo we went to The Origins Games Expo in Columbus, OH, this weekend. It was fun. Susan decided to try to learn a very hard-to-learn game (and loved it) and played in a rails tournament (playing India Rails), in addition to playing a couple of games with me. And We got to see Nikki and Eric and Nikki's brother Joe, who is my new BFF at least when it comes to gaming. We nerded it up BIG TIME. We also got to see Saff, the beautiful daughter of Nikki and Eric. She's a cutie and has monkey toes.
I played a lot of games and acted like quite a fanboy, pointing out to Q all of the game designers and podcasters and such that I saw when I was walking around. I did VERY well on buying games though. I had a sizeable budget, but I was determined to get bang for the buck, so I didn't make a lot of purchases at the show, instead placing a couple of big online orders for games when I got home. Now it's back to the one-or-two-a-month system for a while.
At the show, I bought Stonehenge and Take Stock for myself, and won free copies of Card Football and Thingamajig. Q picked out some she wanted, too, such as Freight Train, Nippon Rails, and Mimic. We also found a guy from Evanston who had a little card game, and we played a round and liked it, so we got it, too. It was called Treasures and Traps.
Once I got home, I ordered a BUNCH of other stuff. The first order from Fairplay Games will likely arrive tomorrow, having Age Of Empires III: Age Of Discovery, Arkadia, Colosseum, Notre Dame, Wings of War: Dawn of War, Yspahan, and Zooloretto. I placed another order with GameSurplus that will arrive in a couple of weeks because one of the games I ordered, Jenseits Von Theben, isn't out for another week or two. The others on that order are Hammer of the Scots, If Wishes Were Fishes, and Ys. Yay.
But the biggest bestest news of all: I'm getting an HDTV! It shipped today and is showing an estimated arrival of July 18th. It's a Samsung 50" Plasma 720P HDTV. Reviews on it are very good, and I can't wait to get it and try it out. Oddly enough, Food Network HD is arriving the day before, so yay! And all those Xbox360 games are going to be sweeeeeeeeeeet.
My old 27" TV will be available to anyone who wants it. Details to follow.
