About six months ago, Susan cam home from someplace or another where she had stopped at an "As Seen on TV' kiosk. You know, the places that sell the crap that people didn't buy from the infomercials. One of the things she bought was the most ridiculous thing I had ever seen: a device to clear clogged drains that is basically a can of compressed air on a stick. The idea is that the compressed air forces the clog down the pipe and the problem is solved. It's a stupid idea, of course. It will more likely just compress the clog or push it down to a worse position in the drain. Silly.

The thing works AMAZINGLY well. We used it on her very-slow bathtub drain and it took only one blast to get it running perfectly. And then last night I used it on a clogged drain. I had poured a whole bottle of caustic drain-cleaning fluid down the drain with little to no improvement. One blast with the compressed air and the water runs down the drain like nobody's business.

The moral of the story? Don't question The Q.

Today at the O'Hare Admiral's Club Lounge, I sat in a group of chairs next to former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar and Arizona Congressman Jim Kolbe. I seem to see a lot of politicians in airports... Of my six airport sightings of famous people, four are politicians: Paul Simon, Carl Levin, Jim Edgar, and Jim Kolbe. For the record, the other two are Ice Cube and John Ennis (Mr. Show, Malcolm in the Middle). Maybe there are others that I have seen that I don't recall right now, and I'm sure there are others that I just didn't see.

Oh, and I saw the entire San Diego State basketball team today, too.

And now I'm in Toronto.

Edited to add: Oh, I once saw Mark DeCarlo in an airport, too. SO MANY FAMOUS PEOPLE!
