What's the worst game ever? Well, according to boardgamegeek.com, it's Tic-Tac-Toe, and you can see why: It's boring, there's no strategy, and the outcome is a usually a foregone conclusion. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have played another game that's very very bad: The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Game. It's rated worse than Go Fish, Tiddledy Winks, Sorry!, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and even Cootie. It's the ninth-worst game of the 2851 ranked games listed on The 'Geek.
And I had a great time... I haven't laughed that hard playing a game in a LONG TIME.
Now don't get me wrong: The game is horrible. It's really astoundingly bad. It's not good at all. The idea is that you're asked a question about how to survive or get out of a very bad situation. You roll a die and a survival question is asked. If you get the answer right, you move the number of spaces indicated by the die roll. First one to the end wins. So the strategy is obvious: Roll high numbers on the die, and if you happen to roll a low number, make sure that you get asked a hard question. So to win, all you have to do is control variables that you have no control over.
The answers to the questions are questionable in a lot of cases. A lot of times, the worst case scenario involves having things you wouldn't normally have. One of the questions asks what you should do to protect your eyes if a volcano erupts. One answer requires you to have tin foil, another to have a motorcycle helmet and scuba mask, and the last requires you to have two cans and a bra. Well, if you have ANY of those things, then you're not really in the worst-case scenario, are you?
But we laughed. OH how we laughed. The questions were SO ridiculous that we couldn't help but make fun of them. We really had a great time in spite of (or perhaps because of?) the horribleness of the game. I hope that in the future we can have the same amount of hilarity without the horrible game.
My rating? 1/10, the lowest possible to give.
