Jun. 24th, 2005 11:49 amI forgot to mention is my update last night that, upon arriving home from Montreal, I went to Park West and saw one of my favorite bands, Eels, live in concert. Ms.
k_rocked was kind enough to join me. For those who don't know, Eels is made up of one permanent member (who goes by the moniker E) and whoever else E feels like having around. This concert tour is E with a string quartet (all female), an upright bass, and a utilitarian musician (pump organ, piano, saw, percussion, steel guitar) named The Chet. Chicago loves The Chet.
The concert was extremely mellow for the most part. Those familiar with the music of Eels know that many of the songs are melancholy and quiet. This concert was no exception. They did, however, venture into blasts of kick-your-ass rock as well. It made for a good show. E also spent a lot of time ranting, chiding the crowd for being too subdued (it worked, they got all excited after that), chiding the cash register operator for dinging it in the middle of the quiet songs, and offering to buy the eight-year-olds at the all-ages show a free beer (I don't think there were really any 8-yos there). He was very very funny. They also played a trailer for what appears to be an upcoming concert film/documentary. The trailer features E being interviewed all over the world and being the prick that he is.
It was a good show, that's my point.
