markjwilder: (Mooooooo-Cow)
Late last night, say 6:00pm or so, I decided I should clean my apartment a little.  I must say that I got a lot accomplished, more than I normally do. Normally I get distracted by porn early in the process and it derails the whole thing.  But this time I've managed to put four of the six rooms in my house into a state of mediocrity.  It'll be nice to come home to a moderately clean place, as opposed to when I came home from Mexico to find the front door unlocked and the back door WIDE OPEN. The kitchen will be tackled next weekend, and boy does it need it. It hasn't been cleaned in probably six months, though I also have cooked in about that long. I used to like cooking, but not just for myself, generally.

Nancy Bananapants: Tell me what you think of my new painting when you see it. See if you want to lick it, too.

And, because I'm now a little bored, here's a meme that was ganked from [livejournal.com profile] juniper200.
Basically it involves seeing what my desktop looks like. )

Edited to add: Grover Washington Jr.'s "Just the Two of Us" is a pretty good song, but DAMN I wish it'd lose the steel drums in the middle. I can't think of too many things I hate musically than the sound of steel drums.

I'm sorta half-working on a mix tentatively titled "the fuck mix". The theme, and I use the term loosely, is sexy songs by which you can hump (and one that's sort of a stripping song). Now, this isn't a mix for ME to have sex to, as I not find any songs that were awkward for 90 seconds before unexpectedly peaking and immediately turning into a lullaby.

The mix, as it is, is now mostly 70's soul as those songs are the sexiest. The only requirement the songs have to have is THE GROOVE. There are a few GREAT songs for the mix: Labi Saffre's "I Got The..." (which Eminem sampled in "my Name Is..."), Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" (A classic for this purpose, and though "Let's Get It On" is arguably sexier, it's over-used so I nixed it), Barry White's "Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me" (brilliant! If you want to know what THE GROOVE is, listen to this song), and Camille Yarbrough's "Take Yo' Praise" (sampled briefly in Fatboy Slim's "Praise You").

On the second tier I have some Sam Cooke/Lou Rawls "Bring It On Home To Me", Otis Redding "I've Been Loving You Too Long" both of which I think are maybe too slow. There's also some Clarence Carter (NOT "Strokin'"), Al Green ("Love and Happiness" would have been perfect, but that was on Kimberly's recent mix and I'm reluctant to duplicate), Grover Washington Jr. (damn steel drums!), and Ray Charles.

I wanted to include some more modern stuff, but I only have three: Maxell's "Ascension" (which Tonya recommended, and rightfully so as it's very 70's soul in feel), Hooverphonics "Mad About You" (I think this is more of an unrequited love song, but it's still uber-groovy), and the sexy-of-modern-sexies, Heather Nova's "Walk This World". Outside of a possible Sophie B. Hawkins song, I couldn't think of much more to fit the bill.  I suppose there's probably some Norah Jones or Alicia Keyes or something that might have a bit of THE GROOVE running through them, but I don't know 'em well enough to know.

So, anyway, that's just rambling. I really just wanted to do a poll:
[Poll #458625]

Also, if you didn't laugh at my "awkward for 90 seconds..." line, I'll cry. I was SO proud of that when I wrote it a month or so ago.

I'm off to Massachusetts. Rhode Island. Both.  Have a good time, huh?

I forgot to pack a fucking tie. So I'm supposed to be at work 8:00 tomorrow morning, but I can't even find anyplace that sells ties that opens until then. So either (a) I'll get a tie and be 30 minutes or more late to work, or (b) just not wear a tie, which I've been told is not looked upon well.

RasaKate, you don't have a tie, do you? :)
