Yup, my hockey team got knocked out of the Stanley Cup playoffs last night. A horrible result, but they played fairly well and they're still my team and will continue to be. They were after they got knocked out by the Sharks in the early 90's, when they got knocked out by the Kings a couple of years ago, and they will continue to be for quite some time. My teams of choice in these playoffs are now Edmonton and Toronto.

I finished The Handmaid's Tale yesterday. I was almost done and bored silly, so I went to the john and read the last 30 pages sitting on the pot. This brings my total to a respectable nine books and four dramas. I noticed that April 11th was my one-year anniversary of getting on my "book kick", so look for a year-in-review post over the weekend. Tomorrow I get to go used book shopping with one of my best friends. :) The next book, to be started today, is Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut.

I saw A Mighty Wind and The Good Thief last night. Are you eager to know what I thought of them? Later, MAYBE.

WickyDay!

I think it's cool that taking an unplanned day off of work has become known as a WickyDay (after our own [livejournal.com profile] wicky) and that her comfortable PJ pants have become known as WickyPants. I think we should name some things after the traits of other Dopers. For instance, if you masturbate with a Burger King toy, that could be... No, wait, that'd still be named after Wicky. But if you spend a weekend with a bong in your mouth, then that could... No, that's Wicky, too. Sorta democritusDemo, too. Hmm, I'll have to think about this more...

FTR, I'm having a WickyAfternoon.

A Mighty Wind - The latest mockumentary from Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show). If you like those movies, you'll like this on. There are some great performances and the folk music (written mostly by the Spinal Tap crew) is great. Some very funny stuff, some a little goofy for my tastes. And one other complaint that may be just something I notice, but Guest's movies have too much of a tendancy to go away from the documentary feel. I want it to be more like a documentary, in other words; not seeing everything that happens, some things handheld, etc. Like I said, maybe it's just me. And I did think the movie was overall quite good, so don't let that little cricism carry too much weight. JoeyHemlock gives A Mighty Wind three and a half stars out of four and recommends it to the fans of this genre.

The Good Thief - A crime drama by the director of The Crying Game and starring Nick Nolte as a drug addict. Huh, wonder how he'll pull that off? It's a pretty well-made movie, with an interesting (if somewhat predictable) plot and good performances. The young female star (Nino Kukhanidze) is enchanting. Don Rickles as Abraham Lincoln was also very convincing. Actually, Don Rickles wasn't in it at all; I just needed to stretch the review out by a few lines. JoeyHemlock gives The Good Thief three stars out of four and recommends the Cheesy Gordita Crunch from Taco Bell. It's really good.
