The Blunt Truth... and Jazz
Feb. 13th, 2003 01:17 pmIf you haven't yet, take the blunt-truth survey about me. Interesting results so far, though they probably don't mean much. It's anonymous, so don't worry about me finding out what you really think.
Today's song of the day is Chet Baker's Born to be Blue, which I've made available for your downloading and listening convenience. It's the perfect anti-valentine's-day song. Slow, sensual, sad, revealing. Please download it? Please let me know what you think? Please?
I have a confession to make. I don't consider myself a "real" jazz fan or anything, but it's still a shy confession: I don't particularly care for most of the "great" jazz. Miles Davis? Charlie Parker? No thanks. Too... spirally. Too many odd intervals. I find it hard to actively listen to. I much prefer either melodic jazz (the Diana Kralls of the world) or fun jazz, like hot jazz (I <3 Django Reinhardt) or swing or neo-swing. Maybe I've just been listening to the wrong stuff. Tonya likes Miles... she should make me a compilation. (Incidentally, I can very easily recognize and admit that Miles and Charlie are amazing musicians, I just don't particulary care for the stuff of theirs that I've heard.)
I do like Dave Brubeck's Take Five, but I don't know if that's typical of his sound or not.

I'm leaving work for the day now... The wonderful
vfc scored free tix to see a preview of All the Real Girls, which stars one Zooey Deschanel. I love me some Zooey.
So how does this affect you? Very simply, this affects you tremendously. You should take this time to reflect on just how much I mean to you and then you should leave me a comment (about anything) because if you don't, I might cry. You can post anonymously if you want to say secret things, as I have never disallowed anonymous comments. You may also write me a poem. Also, you could suggest dirty things you'd like to do to me, as long as they're at least semi-truthful.
Adieu.
