Songs you should hear...
Jan. 21st, 2003 10:21 amTwo songs that I think you should hear. Please let me know what you think if you choose to listen to them
First is It Stops With Me (download the 4.04MB MP3) by The Hot Club of Cowtown. This would probably be classified as "hot jazz", which is a genre I apparently like (I love Django Reinhardt. Did you know that about me?). A lot of their other songs have an alt-country feel to 'em, too. So they're hot-alt-country-jazz. Anyway, this song is on their new album Ghost Train that I got at Borders last night (I'll write up a review of it when I get a chance to listen to it closer. Incidentally, this band will be playing at Nevin's in Evanston IL on April 26th.
stacis,
nymysys,
magdalene1, and you other ChiDopers: I'd like to go see 'em (even if they're not what we normally go see). Yes, I know that I'm planning WAY ahead. They also have gigs coming up in Austin (where I think they're from), Harrisburg, Albany, NYC, Boston, Toronto, and a bunch of other places. I'm just saying.
The second song is from that so-called bluegrass band Nickel Creek that is all the rage. They're not really bluegrassy much at all, though they do have a mandolin and fiddle. They're kinda alt-bluegrass. Anyway, the song is called Should've Known Better (download the 4.08MB MP3) and is from their recent CD This Side. I was listening to it in-store at Borders last night trying to decide if I wanted to buy it, and while I did NOT buy it, I did enjoy this song very much and was able to procure an MP3 thanks to help from a chat hottie that I know. Anyway, this one is on my personal server space, and it won't be around more than a couple days, so download now while you have the chance.
