Two songs that I think you should hear. Please let me know what you think if you choose to listen to them

First is It Stops With Me (download the 4.04MB MP3) by The Hot Club of Cowtown. This would probably be classified as "hot jazz", which is a genre I apparently like (I love Django Reinhardt. Did you know that about me?). A lot of their other songs have an alt-country feel to 'em, too. So they're hot-alt-country-jazz. Anyway, this song is on their new album Ghost Train that I got at Borders last night (I'll write up a review of it when I get a chance to listen to it closer. Incidentally, this band will be playing at Nevin's in Evanston IL on April 26th. [livejournal.com profile] stacis, [livejournal.com profile] nymysys, [livejournal.com profile] magdalene1, and you other ChiDopers: I'd like to go see 'em (even if they're not what we normally go see). Yes, I know that I'm planning WAY ahead. They also have gigs coming up in Austin (where I think they're from), Harrisburg, Albany, NYC, Boston, Toronto, and a bunch of other places. I'm just saying.

The second song is from that so-called bluegrass band Nickel Creek that is all the rage. They're not really bluegrassy much at all, though they do have a mandolin and fiddle. They're kinda alt-bluegrass. Anyway, the song is called Should've Known Better (download the 4.08MB MP3) and is from their recent CD This Side. I was listening to it in-store at Borders last night trying to decide if I wanted to buy it, and while I did NOT buy it, I did enjoy this song very much and was able to procure an MP3 thanks to help from a chat hottie that I know. Anyway, this one is on my personal server space, and it won't be around more than a couple days, so download now while you have the chance.

Thanks for [livejournal.com profile] airborne1 for this information. In fact, thanks to him for the text which I copied verbatim out of his journal...

I don't like Ween very much [editor's note: [livejournal.com profile] airborne1 sucks.], but I found this amusing -- in 2002, Pizza Hut hired the duo to record a jingle for their Stuffed Crust pizza (the ones with the cheese inside the crust). So Ween created the lovely little ditty called "Where'd the Cheese Go?" for the ad. Pizza Hut didn't like the song and wound up hiring someone else to do the ad. So Ween created an uncensored remix of "Where'd the Cheese Go?" According to the guys in Ween, this is "one of the best tunes we wrote all last year."

It's round two of the Game Show Poll. Vote for your favorites (up to ten) and the ones with the most votes will make it to the Showcase Showdown Final Jeopardy The Lightning Round The Final Round. GOOD LUCK!

Anyone can vote, so tell your friends and have them tell their friends and all that.

I'm spending a lot of time on CDbaby.com today. It's a great site where you can get a lot of great CD's by bands you've never heard of.

Oh, and if you're looking for Black Sabbath songs played on medieval instruments and sung in Latin, then Rondellus would be the band for you. I'm finding out rapidly that they are not the band for me. Prozak for Lovers, however, just might be with their bossa-novy covers of classic love songs like Proud Mary, and London Calling, and Fulsom Prison Blues...

But the question remains: Would I rather have a peanut butter cup, or a cup of peanut butter?

E-mics

[livejournal.com profile] nymysys, [livejournal.com profile] stacis, [livejournal.com profile] magdalene, [livejournal.com profile] donkehote, other Chicago types: The E-Mics will be at The Lyon's Den on Jan. 29th, starting at 10pm, with a $5 cover. I would very much like to see them, since I haven't in WAY too long.

In somewhat troubling news, Sonic Voodoo is not currently listed for 2/6 (the first Thursday). Nothing is currently listed. I hope they're there.

The internet causes me more bad than good, I think. I'm off. At least off of the whole talking-to-people stuff. I'm apparently no good at it anymore.

Also, I'm weak. So expect this not to last more than tonight. But at least I'll still have tonight.
