An entry so boring, even I don't care...
Sep. 4th, 2002 10:36 amHappy birthday,
wicklehead.
I made Alton Brown's Mac & Cheese last night based on the recipe on the Food Network's website, and it was disappointing at best. It was a weird gray color (I used orange "NY cheddar" and white "Vermont cheddar" (both made in Wisconsin)), it was bland (even for mac & cheese), and it had those typical milk solid lumps that I associate with mac and cheese. Next time I decide to make Mac & Cheese, I'll try the stovetop-based recipe that Cook's Illustrated recommends, using evaporated milk since it doesn't have the separation and lumping problems that fresh milk has.
My TV still doesn't work, though I managed to get it working long enough to let me watch 15 minutes of Changing Rooms on BBC. Then it puttered out again. Poor me! Poor me! Things are so tough in my world! Wah wah wah!
I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's on dvd last night. Did they even read the book? What a crock of crap. I, unlike some of you, had no problem with Ms. Hepburn. I though she did a decent job. My problem was with the story. The things I liked most about the book, the things I related to, were completely fucked around in the movie. Fred went from a vulnerable Holly-worshiper to a strong-willed gigalo. And Mickey Rooney as the Japanese man? Oh, GOD, stereotype much? It became a sappy piece of crap. I'm sick of happy endings. They're bullshit. 1.5 stars out of 4. Read the book. (See, this is why I shouldn't read.) This movie needs to be remade.
I need to burn CDs this week. Not surprisingly, I promised I would and then didn't. I suck. I promised that I'd make cookies a few weeks ago and I didn't. I never do anything I promise to.
Volleyball tonight. Two games. We'll lose; we always lose. I hope we have fun in the process.
