I was just watching Big Night on dvd just now. It's such a fantastic movie. Anyway, it got me thinking about a few things:
  1. I have a desparate craving for some good real Italian food. Light and tasty stuff, not the thick and heavy. I think a trip to Ristorante Abruzzo in Northbrook is in my immediate future. Their food is so good.
  2. I want to be a chef. Someday.
  3. America has no food culture, and that is sad. The lady trying to order spaghetti with her rosotto is so spot on.
  4. There aren't enough food movies.
  5. Marc Anthony is in Big Night. That Marc Anthony. The one who's a big time singer now.
  6. Look at all these first-class actors! Stanley Tucci, Tony Shalhoub, Ian Holm, Isabell Rossalini, Minnie Driver (with some extra poundage on... YOWZA!), Allison Janney, Liev Schreiber...
  7. Does anyone ever make a Timpano? That looks soooooooo motherfucking good. Just give me one and a fork.
  8. Italian makes me all woozy. I think that's why [livejournal.com profile] racergirl is taking an Italian class.

I need to get on a regular sleep schedule. I think I shall go to the store now and get stuff for breakfast.

(now also a board thread.)

In late August, my company laid me off. I took it all in stride, and they gave me a decent severence package. Still, I hate job searching, so it sucked. Several leads came my way, most went nowhere. Still, there WERE jobs out there, and I WAS getting some interviews and such.

In October, I interviewed with and accepted an offer for a position in Boston (I live in Chicago). It was a good, but not great, position and I was somewhat excited by the new opportunity. Just a few days before I was getting ready to move all my stuff, the company retracted their offer. Still, they gave me $5k (minus a heck-a-lotta taxes) as a consolation. It was good of them, and they didn't have to.

Anyway, things came full circle today when I took a job at the company that laid me off in the first place. Same salary and I'm getting my seniority back. I start Monday.

So, what it all boils down to is that I got a 2.5 month paid vacation and a lot of cool stuff that I bought for myself. Now I just need to start sleeping when it's dark out and being awake when it's light out and I should be all set.
