(no subject)

Congratulations to The Detroit Red Wings, who clinched the President's Trophy (for best regular season record) tonight with a 2-0 shutout win over Edmonton. Now then, boys, let's have a good playoff run (likely against the same Edmonton team).

Edited to add: I don't know who maintains the Red Wing's Wikipedia page, but they already have the President's Trophy up there, as well as an updated roster to include Don MacLean who played his first game with the team today (and scored the winning goal). Man, that's dedication.

The Hurricanes lost today, but they're definately going to finish 1st or 2nd in the conference...

Congrats to the Yankees of hockey!!

There's a salary cap now, so that label no longer applies.

Unless you're using the "loved or hated" sense, in which case you're still right. :)

Sorry, for love hate, that team is my Leafs.

Sorry as they are this year. (not counting taking 14 of the last 16 possible points. And STILL they can't catch up. Tampa and Montreal played well down the stretch.

You're Canadian... What do you know about hockey?

I think you're right that for Canadian teams, it's easily the leafs (and especially in Ontario, I'm sure), but I think Detroit takes it over all.

I like Toronto, which is surprising since Tie Domi (anagram: Me Idiot) and Ed Belfour are among my least favorite players. Oh, and Lindros.

I don't know if you follow non-Leafs hockey, but just in case: Do you think Yzerman will come back for another year? With the way he's playing, I know he COULD. If they win the cup, though, I don't think he will.

Oh, he has the ability. He is actually from the city I'm living in now.

I would love to see Stevie Y in the league, but I think he's done after this season. I can't see what he has to play for anymore.

That'll teach me not to be logged in. That anon comment was from me.

Well, honestly I meant both ways. At least I was half right.

I'm always conflicted when the Wings win the President's Trophy. It's been such a kiss of death of late. Either way, here comes the best time of year: Stanley Cup playoffs!!

[identity profile] joeyhemlock.livejournal.com 2006-04-12 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and the players know that and therefore make no big deal out of it. But in the last ten years they've both won and lost the Cup in President's Cup years, so it really doesn't mean much.

I just want them to play good hockey, and they've done that lately (haven't lost a game in regulation in over a month).

Hockey playoffs are easily the best playoffs in sports (IMHO, of course). I love extra-OT games. My best Red Wings memory is Stevie's 0-0 double-OT goal against St. Louis in... '96? The year before they won the first recent cup. Okay, now that I think about it, my best Red Wings memory was Yzerman lifting the Cup over his head in '97.

[identity profile] indyotto.livejournal.com 2006-04-12 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I remember 96....Yzerman from the blue line!!!

97 was, without a doubt, such a great moment. McCarty's Cup-clinching goal. I was jumping up and down and screaming when he made that goal. Of course, I live in a town that forgot about hockey, so I'm the only MF around here who cares anymore.

I watched that game at a bowling alley in Ovid, Michigan. It was awesome. I was hugging strangers.

Another odd story: At that time I participated in Red Wings' usenet groups, and I composed something I called "lord Stanley's Prayer" (read it here, word-for-word as I wrote it). As I was driving to said bowling alley, I was listing to WJR and some guy phoned in with "a prayer the concession vendor on level one at The Joe" had given him. It was, of course, my writing.

When I wrote it, I said to keep my name on it, but it was quickly lost, as was my moment of fame.

I was listing to WJR...

Was that port or starboard?

*winks*

::love::

Ha ha ha I don't get it.

But I still love you, so that's good. Now 'SPLAIN!

You're so cute.

See you tonight!

[identity profile] beavertails.livejournal.com 2006-04-12 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
The Wings of the late 90s were something else. That's for sure.

In other freaky news, the Detroit papers reported that McCarty filed for bankruptcy. Jesus.

I saw that on the Free Press' website, and I take issue with the fact that they assume that it's necessary to report on it in such detail on the front page.
